LITTLE CHILD UNDER
BED WHEN KILLED
The little Searcy child that was killed near Wicksburg yesterday morning had hidden under the bed from the storm when he met his death. Two of the Searcy children hid under the bed when the storm approached and when the house fell one of them was rescued but the other was smothered to death.

DEATH OF J. W. COLLINS
J. W. Collins, known as “Bob” Collins, living in the west end of Houston County, died Saturday night of fever, and was buried yesterday. He was 53 years old and a prominent citizen of that community.

Uncle Reuben Phelps, who lives near Jellico, in the west end of the county, died this morning at seven o’clock. Mr. Phelps was 82 years old and had been a citizen of that section for many years.

J. Glover, married, 24 years old, had lived in Dothan for some time, died this morning at ten thirty of pneumonia, after a short illness. He was a son of L. A. Glover, who lives west of town.

FARMER NEAR JELLICO
Fred Madison Lee, 28-year-old farmer who lived near Jellico, died Friday morning at five o’clock after a brief illness, according to information received from the Dothan Undertaking Company. The cause of his death is said to have been typhoid fever.
Funeral arrangements are not known.

Mrs. N. E. Minshew, age 42, died at her home near Laurel Hill, Fla., Tuesday about noon, after an illness of several weeks duration.
The deceased is survived by her husband and seven children, Elbert of Great Lakes, Ill. and Lorene, Roy, Coleman, Muriel, Mable and Ben, of Laurel Hill.
Her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Thomas, and three sisters: Mrs. W. C. Reynolds, Mrs. J. H. Drew and Mrs. J. H. Glover, all of Newton, Ala., Rt. 1, also survive.
Mrs. Minshew was also beloved by the many friends who knew her, and the body was brought to Piney Grove Cemetery, Wednesday, where internment was made at 2:30 p.m. Ingram and Forrester were in charge.

Jellico Farmer Dies Suddenly Early Last Night –

Prominent Houston County Citizen At Age of 82
John Fowler, prominent citizen of the Jellico community, age 82, died suddenly last night at 7:15 o’clock. He had been in poor health, however, for a long period.
Mr. Fowler was a member of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock with the Rev. J. W. Malone of Dothan officiating. Fellows and Forrestor will be in charge of arrangements.
The deceased is survived by his wife and five sons: W. E. Fowler of Newton Route 1, E. S. Fowler of Dothan Route 8, T. B. Fowler of Dothan Route 8, R. F. Fowler of Mexica, Texas, E. M. Fowler of Dothan; and two daughters, Mrs. W. L. Fulford of Dothan and Miss Ethel Fowler of Dothan.
Pallbearers will be: Honorary, Judge Harry K. Martin, W. B. Jefferies, E. G. Collins, S. A. Mullins, A. L. Jones, A. O. Walker; the deceased’s four sons and two of his grandsons, Adus Fulford and Henry Fowler.

Mrs. A. L. Jones, 62, wife of A. L. Jones, prominent Jellico community farmer and merchant, died at her home yesterday afternoon at 8:15 o’clock. Mrs. Jones had been in ill health for several weeks.
Funeral services were to have been held this afternoon at Piney Grove Church at 4 o’clock with the Rev. Judkins of Newton officiating. Internment was to have been held in the church cemetery.

The funeral of Mrs. Vermell Fowler, 78, who died at her home on Dothan route 6, was conducted late Sunday at the home, with burial in the Rehobeth church cemetery. The Rev. Clement Ritter, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Dothan, officiated at the funeral.

Mrs. Hettie Anne Collins, 68, mother of E. C. Collins, Houston County tax assessor, and E. R. Collins, of Dothan, died at 7:55 a.m. today at her home, Dothan route seven, in the Jellico community. Mrs. Collins had been ill four months.
Besides the two sons residing in Dothan, she is survived by three other sons of Newton route one, W. C., H. C., and H. G. Collins; three daughters, Mrs. W. B. Casey of Clio; Mrs. J. W. Drew of Hartford; Mrs. E. S. Fowler of Dothan route seven; one brother, John Phelps of Tifton, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Thomas, Newton route one, and Mrs. James Newman, of Geneva.

Dies At Hospital Here
An illness of a week from typhus fever was fatal late Tuesday afternoon at a Dothan hospital to Alford Jones, 60, extensive property owner and merchant of the Jellico community 12 miles west of Dothan.
Mr. Jones was first believed to have been suffering from typhoid fever, but his case later was diagnosed as typhus fever, a contagious disease not as prevalent as typhoid in this territory.
Mrs. Jones was born and lived his entire life in the Jellico community. His wife died about a year and a half ago. They had no children.
He was an uncle of E. G. Collins, tax assessor of Houston County and also of W. R. Collins, Houston County deputy sheriff and Mrs. W. L. Fulford of Dothan.
The only other survivor is M. C. Collins, half-brother, of near Jellico.
The funeral will be conducted tomorrow, with the Rev. Clement Ritter, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating and Houston Funeral Company in charge. Burial will be in the Piney Grove Cemetery, near Jellico.
Active pallbearers at the funeral will be W. C. Collins, W. R. Collins, J. J. Hollis, W. D. Searcy, M. M. Hollis and E. S. Fowler. Honorary pallbearers will be G. M. Malone, Harry K. Martin, Joe Rollins, J. Henry Witherington, J. Heard Saxon, P. E. Cumbie and J. M. Thomas.

TEXAN WANTS FATHER
BURIED IN HIS STATE;
BODY IS DISINTERRED
Because his son wanted his father’s body to rest in his adopted state, the body of the Rev. Archibald S. Reynolds, 81, was disinterred early Sunday morning at the Jellico Cemetery by the Holman Funeral Company of Ozark, and shipped to Childress, Texas for burial again Wednesday.
Rev. Mr. Reynolds died at his home in Esto, Fla., at 5 a.m. Friday and was buried Saturday. His son is O. M. Reynolds, who moved to Texas a number of years ago.

BLOOD POISON FATAL
TO MALVERN GIRL, 12
Norma Lee, 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Z. Ard of Dothan route seven, died last night at 7 o’clock in a local hospital following a short illness. Blood poisoning was given as the cause of her death.
Besides her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Dennis Lee of Dothan route 7, G. P. and R. A. Lee, both of Newton route one and one sister, Mary Lou, of Dothan route seven.
Funeral was to be held this afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Piney Grove Church with the Rev. Manuel Givins officiating.
The following were to act as pallbearers: Ervin Ard, Randolph Ard, George Reynolds, Max Reynolds, Ralph Lee and Hazel Collins.
Burial was to be in the church cemetery with Fellows and Forrestor in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. D. Searcy, 48, of Newton route one, who died at her home Sunday morning were held from the residence, with burial following in the cemetery of the Piney Grove Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by a son, Milford; four daughters, Mrs. D. T. Simmons, Mrs. Clyde Hughes, Mrs. Jim Duffner, and Miss Earnestine Searcy.

IS CLAIMED BY DEATH
Mrs. Willie Mae Ard, 43, of Newton Route one, died at Tuscaloosa at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, following an illness that covered a period of years. Her death, however, was unexpected.
She had been a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church many years and was active in religious and social circles in her home community.
She is survived by her husband, H. D. Ard, Newton route one; three sons, Irby, Randolph and Preston Ard, all of Newton route one; three daughters, Misses Ella, Carolyne and Hortense Ard, all of Newton; three brothers, Wilburn Hallford, Columbus, Ga., J. MIDLAND CITY, November 25 (Special) – The victim of poison, Mrs. Myrtie Mae York, 29, was found sprawled on the kitchen floor of her home near here Saturday afternoon by Mrs. Lonnie Edwards, a neighbor, who had been summoned by Mrs. York’s six-year-old daughter, Carolyn.
The child told Mrs. Edwards her mother was “sick” and had taken some medicine and was alone at the house, her father having gone to Columbus, Georgia, to attend the Auburn-Georgia football game. Within 15 minutes after Mrs. Edwards reached her, the young farm matron was dead.
In the absence of Kenneth Holman, Dale County coroner in a Dothan hospital recovering from an operation, local physicians and Sheriff J. W. Helms made an investigation, the sheriff announcing they had not yet returned a report.
The investigation was slowed, Sheriff Helms said, because of the lack of evidence and witnesses, Mrs. York being alone at the time except for her daughter. An empty medicine bottle was found near her, containing only a few drops of an unidentified liquid.
Mrs. York is survived by her husband, Grady York; a son, Grady Donald York; a daughter, Carolyn; two sisters, Mrs. N. H. Rountree, Pinckard and Mrs. Wiley Thomley, Valdosta, Georgia; a brother, Willie E. Warren, Geneva; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Warren, Geneva.
Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Piney Grove Church with Mrs. Martha L. Joiner of Abbeville officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Houston Funeral Company in charge.

Mrs. Callie Warren, of Pinckard, died at her home Friday night. Funeral was held at Piney Grove at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Quidas Dean of Hartford, officiating. Ward-Wilson was in charge of burial.
Mrs. Warren was a member of the Rentecostal church and was active in church and social affairs.
She is survived by the husband, L. W. Warren, a son, W. E. Warren of Geneva Route 1, two daughters, Mrs. N. H. Rountree of Pinckard, and Mrs. W. L. Thomley of Valdosta; three brothers, R. A. and C. Mrs. Ella Collins, seventy-three, died at her home on Newton Route one yesterday afternoon and funeral services were held this morning.
The funeral was at the residence with the Rev. Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Piney Grove Cemetery, Houston in charge.
Mrs. Collins was born in Florida but lived in the community near Piney Grove all her life. She was a member of the Piney Grove Church. Survivors are the husband, M. C. Collins; a brother, Allen Adams, Slocomb, and a sister, Mrs. Mandy Ard, Slocomb.

MOSES COLLINS
FUNERAL HELD
Funeral services for Moses C. Collins who died yesterday afternoon at his home on Newton Route one following an illness of about a year due to a paralytic stroke was held from Piney Grove Church at 10 this morning. Burial was in the church cemetery, Houston Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Collins, who was seventy-eight, was a lifelong resident of the Newton community and was actively engaged in farming until his illness. His wife preceded him in death by five weeks. He was a member of the Piney Grove Church.
There are no immediate survivors, although the following relatives survive: Dewey Bynum, Miss Edward, Fred and Taft Bynum, Lemma Bynum, Columbus, Ga.; and Mrs. Clyde Hathaway, all of Black; Mrs. Eura Simmons, Mrs. Dera Difford, Mr. and Mrs. W. Funeral services for W. J. Reynolds, eighty, of Newton route one, who died at his home last night, following a long illness, will be held tomorrow with the Rev. James A. Zellner of Newton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Ward-Wilson directing.
A charter member of Winseltte Chapel Methodist Church and the Newton Masonic Lodge, Mr. Reynolds lived in the Newton route one community for the past fifty-six years.

Wiley Collins Dies;
Was City Policeman
Wiley R. Collins, sixty, Dothan policeman, died at his home, 301 North Edgewood Drive, yesterday afternoon at 4 p.m. of a heart attack following a short illness.
He was on duty when taken ill and was removed to his home by Sergeant George Garrett, of the police department. Mr. Collins had been a member of the police department for the past nine years, and was formerly connected with the sheriff’s office.
Surviving are his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Foye of Dothan; four brothers, W. C. Collins, Jacksonville, Fla.; H. H. Collins and E. G. Collins, both of Dothan, and H. G. Collins, Columbus, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. W. B. Casey, Clio, Mrs. J. W. Drew, Newton and Mrs. E. S. Fowler, Hartford.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Clement Ritter and the Rev. T. W. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Fellows and Forrester in charge.

W. C. Collins, fifty-eight, a resident of Houston County until 15 years ago when he moved to Jacksonville, Fla., died at his home in Jacksonville yesterday afternoon following a long illness. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Funeral services for John Bryant (Uncle Tom) Fowler, 79, Geneva Rt. 1, who died in a Tuscaloosa hospital yesterday will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Piney Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Mr. Fowler was born in Dale County. At an early age he moved to Houston County where he lived for many years. He was a trustee of the Jellico School west of Dothan.
In 1931 he moved to Geneva County where he had lived since. He was a charter member of the Piney Grove Methodist Church.

One Dead, Two
Hurt On Circle
One person was fatally injured and two others were hurt in a two-car collision yesterday afternoon at the intersection of the Ross Clark Circle and Fortner Street.
The fatality, first traffic death of the year in Dothan, was Mrs. Ada Mae Drew, 67, of Newton Rt. 1.
Injured were Mrs. Gussie Eugene Glover, her sister, who is also of Newton, reported in fair condition today at a local hospital and J. W. Calhoun, 51, of Eufaula Rt. 1.
Police say the accident happened shortly after noon when Mrs. Glover, approaching the intersection, failed to stop in time for a stop sign on Fortner.
Mrs. Drew, who died at about 5 p.m. yesterday, was born and reared in Houston County and was a resident of the Wicksburg community. She was a member of the Winslette Chapel Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Winslette Chapel Methodist Church. The Rev. D. Y. Martin will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home in charge.
The body will lie in state at the residence from 5 p.m. tomorrow until an hour before funeral time.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. O. T. Holloway and Mrs. Clyde Casey; two sisters, Mrs. Gussie Glover, and Mrs. W. C. Reynolds, all of Newton; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

NEWTON – Espy S. Hollis, Route 1, Newton, died yesterday at his home after an illness of several weeks. He was 59.

A native of Lynn, Mass., Mr. Foye moved to Dothan in 1942. He was an employee of the Dothan Cigar and Candy Co. and was a member of the Park Avenue Church of Christ.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Flaudie Collins Foye, several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Glover was born in Dale County. He moved to Houston County at 21 and became a farmer in the Jellico community. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Gus C. Reynolds, 77, died unexpectedly last night at his home in the Jellico Community on Newton Rt. 1.

During World War I he served in the Army, and in 1920 moved to Birmingham where he worked as a postal clerk for 13 years. He then returned to the Jellico community to farm and to operate Reynolds’ Store. He was a member of the Winslette Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Fowler was a native of Dale County. He lived a number of years in Geneva County and then moved to Dothan 22 years ago. He was a member of the Winslette Chapel Church and of Dothan Masonic Lodge 466.

He was a member of the Pinckard United Methodist Church where he had held various offices, including Chairman of the Official Board. He had served on the Pinckard City Council and as City Clerk. He was a member of the Midland City Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gaye Fowler Rountree of Pinckard; one brother, Dr. Thomas J. Rountree of Mobile, one nephew, Bill Buffkin of Panama City, Florida; two nieces, Laura Buffkin and Carna Rountree of Mobile; three aunts, Mrs. Julia Rice and Mrs. Mollie B. A native of Dale County, Mr. Rice was the son of Dr. J. R. and Emma Poyner Rice. He lived his early life in the Pinckard area of Dale County and the Jellico community of Houston County. In 1918 he moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where he had lived since. He was a retired Pullman conductor with the Atlanta Coast Line Railroad and was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA. – Mickey Allen Woods, 45, of 449 Raven Springs Trail, Stone Mountain, Ga., and a former resident of Houston County, died Saturday afternoon in an Atlanta hospital after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. EST today at the Rock Creek United Methodist Church in Lithonia, Ga. Graveside services will be 11 CST a.m. Tuesday in the Winslette Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Houston County near Wicksburg, with Ward-Wilson Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
The body arrived in Dothan Sunday night and will be at the funeral home until funeral time Tuesday morning. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 tonight.
Mr. Woods was a native of Houston County and lived his early years in the Wicksburg area. He entered the United States Air Force and served approximately four years. Following his discharge, he moved to St. Louis, Mo., where he lived for a number of years.
While in St. Louis, Mr. Woods attended and graduated from Washington University with his degree in electrical engineering. He then moved to Stone Mountain and was associated with Lithonia Lighting for 15 years, serving most recently as vice-president of marketing and manpower development.
Mr. Woods was a graduate of the Executive M. B. A. program at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He was associated with and served in leadership capacities for various professional organizations including The National Lighting Bureau and The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
He was the son of the late Eugene and Gladilou Woods of Wicksburg and a member of the Rock Creek Methodist Church in Lithonia, Ga.
Survivors include two brothers, Billy T. Mathis, Laurel Hill, Fla., Pete Mathis, Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Barbara Bath, Chiefland, Fla., Mrs. Ruby L. Hammack, Stone Mountain, Ga.; two nieces and two nephews.

JACKSON’S GAP – Albert Emmanuel Saunders, 78, died Wednesday, April 18, 1990, at his residence in Jackson’s Gap after a brief illness.

Mr. Saunders was born in Geneva County. After marriage he lived in Houston County, where he was employed as a road and bridge crew worker with the Houston County Road Department until his retirement. He moved to Jackson’s Gap about a year and a half ago. He was a member of the Malvern Baptist Church for more than 60 years.
Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Woodham Saunders.

Mrs. Flaudie Collins Foye, 87, of Newton Rt. 1 (Jellico Coummunity) died Friday, July 5, 1991, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred on Ross Clark Circle and East Burdeshaw Street.

Mrs. Foye was born March 24, 1904, in Houston County and lived most of her life in the Jellico community. She had been employed by Blumberg’s and B. C. Moore while residing in Dothan.

Mrs. Collins was born January 14, 1916, in Geneva County and lived her early life in the Hartford area. She moved to Houston County in 1937 and resided in the Jellico community prior to moving to Dothan in 1939. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a nursery worker for many years.
She was preceded in death by a son, Moody W. Collins, who died in 1978.
Survivors include two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Tony and Manius Collins, Dothan, Moody and Kathy Collins, Melrose, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Michelle and Kristal Collins, all of Melrose; two brothers, Relus Hagler, Phenix City, John B. She was a member of the Winslette Chapel United Methodist Church where she was active in church affairs and had served as church pianist for several years. She was a homemaker and the widow of Espy Hollis, who died in 1960.

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lee; a son, C. W. Lee; and a daughter, Mervine Welch.

Loyce Damon Searcy, 74, of 32 W. Chadwick Circle, died Saturday, February 5, 1994, at Lakeview Community Hospital in Eufaula after a brief illness.

Benjamin “Roy” Reynolds, 75, of Sophie Drive, Tampa, Florida, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at University Community Hospital in Tampa, Florida, following an extended illness.

Mr. Reynolds was born April 5, 1924, in Houston County, and lived the early years of his life in the Jellico Community. He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in Japan during his tour of duty. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and held a degree in accounting. Mr. Reynolds resided in New Orleans, Louisiana, most of his life and was employed with Sears and Roebuck prior to his retirement. He resided in Tampa, Florida, for the past year and a half, and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Ruth Driskell, Bowling Green, Florida; Bernell and James Morris, Dothan; Helen McIntyre, Enterprise; Kate and Earl Simpkins, Freeport, Florida; Sue and Doug Douglass, Hueytown; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Reynolds was preceded in death by his mother and father, W. C. Reynolds and Mary Pauline Reynolds, and two brothers, George Reynolds and Max Reynolds.

Burial will follow in Winslette Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Hollis will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Wednesday.

Mrs. Hollis was the daughter of the late Tom and Etta Snell. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Earl Snell of Jacksonville, Florida and Alonzo Snell of Dothan, Alabama.
Mrs. Hollis graduated from Wicksburg High School in 1941 where she was a member of the girls basketball team that won the state championship. After high school, Mrs. Hollis began a 25-year business career at Sears Roebuck & Company in Dothan. Mrs. Hollis started Surburban Interiors, an interior design business, and in 1984, she opened and operated Waterbed World in Enterprise, Alabama until her retirement in 1993.
Mrs. Hollis was a member of Bay Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Hollis to whom she was married for 61 years; two daughters, Sylvia Hollis Harrison (Charles) of Atlanta, Georgia and Sandra Hollis Kellner (Bill) of Kennesaw, Georgia; a sister, Maude Killingsworth of Dothan; a sister-in-law, Jimmie Lou Snell of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, Robert Clark Rudder III (Andrea) of Birmingham, Alabama, Jared Matthew Paul of Atlanta, Georgia, and Leigh Hollis Rudder of Atlanta, Georgia; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Carolyn Rudder and Jennifer Ashley Rudder, both of Birmingham, Alabama; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Judith Gaye Fowler Walker of 1085 East Highway 134, Pinckard, Dale County, Alabama, died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Extendicare Hospice Services Facility in Dothan.
A private funeral, conducted by Brother Doug Fowler, was held Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at Jellico Community Cemetery with Kent-Thornton Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Walker was born December 2, 1939, in Geneva County, Alabama. She was a paralegal for Lewis & Brackin Law firm and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pinckard.
Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Dawson and Neppie Helms Fowler, two sisters, one brother, and her first husband, Kenneth Rountree.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Bernard Walker of Pinckard and Ozark, one sister, Lorraine Dancy of Dothan, one sister-in-law, Arleen A. Fowler of St. Louis, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
If anyone cares to do anything in remembrance of Mrs. Walker, she had requested that a tree be planted.

Edna D. McAllister, age 79, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA and Dothan, AL, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, after a long illness. She was preceeded in death by her husbands, Carl F. Greene, Sr. and Charles H. McAllister. She is survived by two children, a daughter-in-law, 2 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, a great-granddaughter, two sisters and a brother. She was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA and Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Dothan, AL. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Parkinsons Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.

Mr. Fred Searcy of Chadwick Circle in Dothan, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at his residence, following a brief illness. He was 75.

Mr. Searcy was born November 10, 1927 in Houston County, the son of the late Whit Searcy and Willie Jewell Daughtry. Mr. Searcy was a retired school teacher in Donalsonville, Ga. And was a member of Grandview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mildred Godwin, and two brothers, Loyce Searcy and Lester Searcy.
Survivors include three sisters, Addie Tate of Pinckard, Pauline Cannon of Wicksburg and Gwendolyn Hamilton of Banning, Calif., two brothers, Glenn Searcy of Wicksburg and Grover Searcy of Dothan, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She retired as a Pharmacy Technician with Professional Pharmacy and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Mancel Thedford Fowler. Survivors include a son, Doug Fowler of Columbus; a sister, Myrtle Jordan of Dothan, Ala.; two grandchildren, Elise McLendon and Tracey Yancey and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Pauline Searcy Cannon, 78, of Newton, Al., died Thursday evening at her residence under the care of Wiregrass Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 10, at Winslette Chapel in Wicksburg (Jellico Community). Mrs. Cannon will be available for viewing Sunday prior to the service at Kent-Thornton-Meadows Funeral Home from noon until 2 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Greg Speights.
Mrs. Cannon was born January 28, 1926 in Houston County, Alabama. Pauline retired as a patient assistance and was a lifetime resident of Houston County.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Joe Cannon, her parents Whit and Jewell Searcy, daughter Cynthia Jo Cannon, as well as three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by a son, Denis Alan Cannon and his wife Cheryl of Dothan, two grandchildren, Angela Cannon Pace and husband Chuck of Dothan, and Elizabeth Cannon Shirley and husband Michael of Newton, a grandson Chris Cannon of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Glenn Searcy of Newton and Grover Searcy of Dothan; a sister, Gwendolyn Hamilton and husband of Banning, Calif., a brother-in-law, Homer Tate of Waycross, Ga., a special friend and caregiver, Glenda Coleman and several nieces and nephews.

Jennings Smith
Mr. Jennings Smith, a resident of the Jellico Community of Wicksburg, Ala., died early Monday morning, April 11, 22005, at his residence. He was 69.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today, April 13, 2005, at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Harvey Luke and the Revs. Buddy Hood and Doug Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Winslette Chapel cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born July 15, 1935 in Chipley, Fla., and moved to the Jellico Community at an early age. He was a member of the Air National Guard (115th Squadron) for eight years. He was employed as a supervisor in the wood manufacturing department with Hedstrom Union for 32 years. He was later associated with Andrews U. S. Mail as a driver for several years. For the last eight years, Mr. Smith was an avid gardener and always found delight in sharing his fresh vegetables with his friends and neighbors. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was a member of Winslette Chapel Methodist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Wade Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Smith, Wicksburg, two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Hulon Carpenter and Debbie and Randy Speigner, three grandchildren, Misty Kelley and husband Zane Kelley, Juston Carpenter and wife April and Shena Hutto; two great-grandsons, Zeke Kelley and Owen Carpenter, his mother Verlie Lunsford Smith, Panama City, Fla., a brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Betty Smith, Panama City, Fla., two special sisters-in-law, Annie Clyde Blackman and Lola Mae Campbell, and many special friends and neighbors in the Jellico Community.

Mrs. Fowler was born June 28, 1929 in Rossville, Georgia and resided in Lynn Haven, Florida for several years. In 1983, she moved to Houston County where she resided the remainder of her life. She was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Steven L. Fowler of Dothan passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at SAMC. He was 58.

Steven was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who will be forever missed.

Mr. Fowler was born November 1, 1952, in Houston County, Alabama, to Betty Woodham Fowler and the late JT Fowler. He was a graduate of Wicksburg High School and earned a Bachelors degree in Engineering from Troy State University. Mr. Fowler served as the distribution manager for Delta Galil, having worked in the industry for over 25 years. He moved to Fitzgerald in the early 90s from Milton, Florida. Mr. Fowler enjoyed his work and his co-workers but his favorite pastime was spending time with his children and family. A member of First Baptist Church, he attended New Prospect Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette Dopson Fowler of Fitzgerald; his children: Shawn and Chandra Fowler of Hapeville, Heather Fowler, Destiny Young, and Garyson Fowler, all of Fitzgerald; J. T. Burnette, Devin Kite, Rowan Fowler, and Pierce Fowler; his mother Betty Woodham Fowler of Jellico, Alabama; and a sister, Marilyn and Mike Jenkins of Slocomb, Alabama. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steven Lamar Fowler.
